Every shop says they “test their products”. Ours actually means it — although we admit the testing team naps through most meetings.
The management
Ruby wears the red bow. Chief of toy assessment: if it moves, flutters or rolls, Ruby has opinions within seconds, delivered at speed across the living-room floor. Rosie wears the pink bow. Head of comfort and beverages: beds, blankets, perches and the water fountain all pass across her desk, where “her desk” is defined as wherever she is currently lying.
They’re both cream Ragdolls, both champion floppers, and both capable of achieving complete liquid relaxation in the middle of any room — round, content, slightly wobbly. Two little puddings. Hence the name over the door, and hence the two cats in our logo (look closely: red bow left, pink bow right).
The rigorous QC process
- The Sniff. Every candidate product is inspected on arrival. Boxes score consistently high, which skews the data, but we work with what we have.
- The Ignore. A mandatory 24-hour period in which the product is treated as if it does not exist. Products that survive the Ignore and still get played with on day two have genuine staying power — that’s the test most cheap toys fail.
- The Verdict. Sustained play, sustained napping, or sustained drinking = stocked. Ignored forever = binned, however good the margins looked.
Why bother?
Because the pet industry is drowning in landfill with a whisker motif — toys that get one sniff, beds that get one nap. We started PuddingCats to stock the things cats actually use: toys that get played with, furniture that doesn’t ruin your room, and essentials that just work. If it wouldn’t earn a second day of Ruby’s attention or a full Rosie sprawl, it doesn’t go in the shop.
Follow the department
The QC team publish their findings (flops, mostly) on TikTok, Instagram and Pinterest — and their picks get badges in the shop: Ruby’s Pick for the best toys, Rosie’s Pick for supreme comfort. Got a pudding of your own? Send us the flop photos. They enjoy assessing the competition.
